The explosion occurred in Schönberg near Sandesneben in February 2025 and the cause has been attributed to the BESS of the PV system. The remains of the house will have to be demolished. Happily, the family were on vacation. I believe I have stated in previous post(s) that I served on the working group that formulated the voluntary standard PAS63100 “Electrical installations. Protection against fire of battery energy storage systems for use in dwellings. Specification”. I think it fair to say that I pushed for BESS to be banned from roof spaces (and wanted them outside of the domestic area altogether) with the support of my specialist NFCC colleagues. The last I heard, the installers of PV/BESS systems that subscribe to a particular certification scheme were to vote as to whether or not to conform to the PAS. I hope they vote yes.
