Air Busan bans powerbanks in luggage in overhead lockers. Air Busan has banned the powerbanks following a fire that destroyed an aircraft on the runway at Hong Kong on 28 January this year. All on board were evacuated safely with no injuries.

The amount of energy that power bank can hold is not appreciated by most. These things can store enough to change a phone or tablet 3 or 4 times. And are very able to cause a small VCE when they fail. And fire if ignition occurs. And aircraft should have safe Charing points with fire containment for charging phones and devices. Carrying power banks in cabin bags is not great idea. But neither is it in hold luggage. There has been one case in cargo plane that fire damaged the control electrical system.. However the plane was able to land due to built in redundancy in the design of the system s aboard
Great points Marcus!
